What Is Your Definition of Success?
Urban Dictionary defines success as “not sucking.” Google describes it as “the accomplishment of an aim or purpose.”
Success, in my opinion is determined and defined by the person measuring their own success. What you put into the universe, is what you will receive. You set your own goals, you set your own bar and standards, you define what make you happy and you define what success is, in your opinion.
To one person, success may mean being a millionaire, and another person’s definition could be to have a decent home, a family and a steady job and their life experiences. Though, over the years, as you go through life and change, your definition of success will change.
Ten years ago, I can say I thought popularity and money was success. Growing up in a suburban middle-class neighbourhood and the pressures of high-school and not knowing where exactly you stand was tough. You know, that typical high-school, teen-angst era of your life where you think everything on MTV and MuchMusic was cool and you wanted to be like those pop-stars & r&b artists?
Nowdays, in my mid-twenties, success to me is having a decent salary, a career I enjoy and have upward movement in, maintaining independency and soon being a home-owner with my fiancé and eventually starting a family and buying a puppy. (It sounds boring, right? Especially to a teenager, most likely.) If I can do the things that bring me joy and be happy about something every single day of the rest of my life, that is success to me. To be able to enjoy my life and experiences based around and through my career, lifestyle, hobbies and experiences.
